Lost Time

How to count

Counting lost time under OSHA recordkeeping is actually easy once you know a few key facts:

  • You do not count the day of the injury. The count starts the next day.
  • Count using calendar days, regardless of whether the worker was scheduled to work. The idea is to capture the severity of the injury, i.e., whether or not the worker would have been medically able.
  • You can stop counting after the worker is out for 180 days.
